October Blu Ray review

Video Quality: October is presented on the Blu-Ray by Reliance Big Entertainment. The movie is presented on the widescreen ratio of 2.35:1 1080p full HD picture quality.

The details are very crisp & clear. Since, the scene moves back & forth between the Hotel & Hospital throughout the movie; it must have been tricky to balance the glittering appearance of the Hotel & the gloominess of the Hospital in the Blu-ray. But, it has been handled very well. The interiors, upholstery & ambience of the Hotel as well as the Hospital looks very good & detailed. The video quality compliments the cinematography of the movie

My score: 5 out of 5 for Video Quality

Audio Quality: The Blu-Ray comes with a lossless DTS HD Master audio 5.1 surround sound.

The sound volume was audible from the bollywood standards. I watched the entire movie at -33 level; compared to many masala flicks (which were at -42 level).  The dialogues were very clear. The “beeping” of the machines in the Hospital, breathlessness of the lead actress in hospital, people movement in the Hotel, sounds of the cutlery, cooking in the hotel kitchen are few of the scenes which shows the commendable audio quality of the blu-ray The scenes in the movie did not demand any major activities in the LFE department. The sound-mix is very good. Even, sound effects of the silence in the movie can be so good, I never knew it before watching this blu-ray.

On scale of 1 to 5, the Blu-Ray soundtrack will be 5/5.

Overall, the score is 10/10. It’s a must have for the movie lover.

Newton Blu-Ray review

Note: This review is of the Blu-Ray, not the actual movie. The Reviewer is not related to the team behind the Movie or Home Entertainment Business. This is just a review for helping the potential Buyers.

Since very long (approx jan’ 2018 onwards), I was waiting for the Newton Blu Ray to release. Now, that it has released, here’s my review:

Video Quality: Newton is presented on the Blu-Ray by Reliance Entertainment. The movie is presented on the widescreen ratio of 2.35:1 1080p full HD picture quality. The movie is based entirely in rural settings with forest cover dominating the screen. The movie is throughout filled with different shades of greenish brown colour (for denoting the jungle area of naxal affected village). Therefore, the picture quality appears very cool and soothing. It doesn’t appears too harsh on the eyes. However, in certain scenes, the grainy effect becomes too audible.

The details are very clear & fine e.g. deserted school campus which is used as voting place, colours of the trees in the forest, wrinkles on the Military uniform. These are some of the highlights showing good picture quality. But, the ending scene of Aatma Singh in supermarket & Newton working in his office; slightly falls short of actual clarity. Maybe, the Camerawork was deliberately done like that.

My score: 4.5 out of 5 for Video Quality

Audio Quality: The Blu-Ray comes with a lossless DTS HD Master audio 5.1 surround sound.

The sound was just audible from the bollywood standards. I would have been happy if the sound had been little more. Many people may not agree with my views. I watched the entire movie at -28 level; compared to Padman (which was at -42 level). The vocal, dialogues were clear in majority of the scenes. But, there were few scenes, where I had to actually look at the subtitle to understand what they said. The dialogue was very low in volume. The scenes in the movie did not demand any major activities in the surround sound nor LFE.

The eeriness silence in the forest has been captured beautifully. I could literally feel that. That was the standalone moment in this bluray sound effect.

On scale of 1 to 5, the Blu-Ray soundtrack will be 4/5. 1 point less for unclear dialogue in few scenes.

Overall score is 8.5/10.

Padman Blu Ray review

Note: This review is of the Blu-Ray, not the actual movie. The Reviewer is not related to the team behind the Movie or Home Entertainment Business. This is just a review for helping the potential Buyers.

Since very long (approx june onwards), I was waiting for the PadMan Blu Ray to release. Now, that it has released, here’s my review:

Video Quality: Padman is presented on the Blu-Ray by Shemaroo Entertainment. The movie is presented on the widescreen ratio of 2.35:1 1080p full HD picture quality. One best thing this time Shemaroo has done, not to keep “Shemaroo” watermark visible throughout the movie. It only appears in the songs. The movie is based on rural settings with rustic ambience mostly. The movie is throughout filled with different shades of brown colour (for village, town settings). Therefore, the picture quality appears very cool and within limits. It doesn’t appears too harsh on the eyes.

The details are clear & fine e.g. crease on the shirt worn by Akshay’s character Lakshmi, barren landscape of the villages, vehicles moving around the building as seen through the glass behind Lakshmi, when he is addressing the crowd etc. These are some of the highlights showing good picture quality.

My score: 5 out of 5 for Video Quality

Audio Quality: The Blu-Ray comes with a lossless Dolby Atmos surround sound. I am very grateful to the entire team behind Pad-Man for releasing the Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

The sound was appropriately loud; which i like. Many people may not agree with my views. I watched the entire movie at -42 level; compared to Raazi (subtle at -35 level). The vocal, dialogues were very clear & clean. The scenes in the movie did not demand any major activities in the surround sound. Now, except for few scenes such as bird flying in the air, temple bells ringing far away in background, audience clapping in UN Building; i couldn’t find much activity in overhead speakers. The movie as such is not “Bass-heavy” except in 2 songs- “Hu Ba Hu” & “End-credits song”.

Frankly speaking, i could not find drastic audio improvement in this Blu-Ray over DVD Dolby Digital audio except for few scenes i mentioned above.  Well, yeah, I saw this movie on DVD as well as Blu-Ray. On scale of 1 to 5, if DVD soundtrack was 4/5; then Blu-Ray soundtrack will be 4.5/5.

So, for audio, i will give it 4.5 out of 5. Half points less for lack of immersive experience of Dolby Atmos soundtrack, which i was expecting in the movie.

Overall score is 9.5/10.
